Christmas is coming….

Chrismas is coming

Christmas is coming; they say the geese are getting fat,
But here at Botanicals, we never think of that.
For we are busy making organic, natural treats,
Perfect gifts for those you love; for faces, hands and feet.
And just in case the festive rush gets you in a spin,
(Traffic jams and jostling crowds do nothing for your skin!)
Remember, at Botanicals, we can save you time –
Our range of hand-made gifts is available online.

I hope you like our little rhyme :o

We’ve been really busy in recent weeks with preparations for the festive season, and are finally adding the finishing touches to our 2010 Christmas Collection.

Our theme this year is ‘Pamper‘ (rather than ‘Hamper’). We’ve included some brand new products (all with amazing smells!), some good old favourites, and some heavenly winter warmers.

Why not make your female friends and loved ones feel truly pampered this year?
There’s something for everyone, and of course it’s all completely natural.

Our Christmas Gift Collection will be available from early November. Watch out for details!

Do organic skin care products really need to smell so bad?

We capture the true aroma of plant essences.

I visited our local health shop last week to talk to the new owner Neil, about Botanicals Natural Skin Care. Neil explained that he’d looked at a lot of skin care ranges, but hadn’t found anything before that didn’t smell awful! (Thankfully, he loved all the Botanicals smells!)

Surely, everyone (women and men) go for nice smells when choosing a personal care product. The cosmetics giants know this only too well, and invest millions of dollars in the formulation of fragrance. Unfortunately, this is typically synthetic fragrance, which brings with it the health concerns covered in my earlier blog post about ‘secret ingredients’.

Why then are organic skin care producers seemingly not conscious of the importance of a nice smelling product?

Herbal treatment for damaged hair

We all love to see the sun, but it can wreak havoc with our hair, making it dry, brittle and straw-like. Add in a holiday with a dip in salty sea water, or even a gentle swim in a chlorine-filled pool, and the damage to your hair can be severe.

Natural hair treatment

Natural is best when it comes to hair treatments.

But reaching for a chemical-based shampoo, conditioner or treatment for damaged hair, that promises to ‘moisturise’ and ‘hydrate’, can often exasperate the problem. Whilst a treatment for damaged hair can often mask the problem, the underlying condition will usually remain, meaning that the product has to be re-applied – often daily.

Petro-chemical based hair care products can be drying and irritating to the hair and scalp, causing a vicious circle to occur. (Our hair feels extra dry and brittle, so we slather on the moisturising shampoos and conditioners in blissful ignorance that these may themselves be contributing to the condition.)

‘Miracle Remedy’ for dry skin on feet

Botanicals natural foot balm

'A miracle cure' said May about our natural foot balm.

Botanicals natural foot balm, can now boast two accolates: Firstly as winner of ‘Best Organic Body Care’ in this years Natural & Organic Awards, and secondly as “miracle remedy” for dry skin on feet, as heralded by diabetic, May Messer.

May, from Dunblane, had suffered with skin problems on her feet for many years; a common complaint for people with diabetes. She had tried all sorts of ‘prescribed’, and ‘over the counter’ products, but explained that nothing had been able to help: “My feet were in a terrible state, dry and cracked, and I’d been very worried about getting foot ulcers – which can lead to serious complications” explained May.

Botanicals Natural Skin Care supports Make-A-Wish

It’s been a busy spring bank holiday at Botanicals.

We were asked a couple of weeks ago if we’d like to support the Make-A-Wish charity, by donating gifts for the annual Summer Ball at Blenheim Palace, which takes place on 12th June.

Make-A-Wish is such a worthwhile cause. It grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life threatening illnesses. The charity is hoping to raise £400k at the event, all of which will go directly to the charity.

So we’ve been busy filling bottles – 300 of them! We’ve called them our ‘little bottles of joy’ :o

We’re also donating 10% of orders made in June from supporters of Make-A-Wish to the charity. To join us, simply type ‘wish’ at the checkout, and 10% of what you spend will be sent directly to Make-A-Wish.

Click here to view the Make-A-Wish website. (Charity Registration Nos. 295672/SCO37479)
